You have the option of documenting this meeting in person or remotely.
If you choose to attend in person, an additional hour will be added to your total assignment hours. You may be asked to provide government-issued photo ID and to go through a metal detector.
If you choose to document remotely, please note that this is the second time that the Chicago Police Board is conducting a hybrid meeting and last time the virtual sound quality was not very good. The meeting will be broadcast by CAN-TV on Chicago cable television channel 27 and live-streamed online (check https://www.cantv.org/watch/stream-can-tv27/). The video may not appear until at or a few minutes after the scheduled start time. If you do not see if right away, wait a few moments and try refreshing your Internet tab.
If you don’t see the video by 5 minutes after the scheduled start time, let us know via a reply to this assignment’s email.
The listed meeting end time is an estimate based on the duration of past meetings of this type.
Assignment 1:1s We are developing more spaces for Documenters to connect with staff (India, Grace or Natalie) for one-on-one for assignment-specific support and verbal feedback. These calls are optional but highly encouraged for new Documenters, to connect what you learned in our orientation/training with an actual assignment (more experienced Documenters are also welcome to sign up).
Each call usually lasts 15-30 minutes and if you take advantage of them we’ll add the time to your total assignment pay hours.
- Pre-assignment call: walk through how to do pre-research, find relevant meeting information, address other common questions
- Post-assignment call: Debrief your experience, learnings, questions and strategies for next time
If you have the time/interest in doing either/both calls, you can sign up for an assignment one-on-one slot at www.calendly.com/chidocumenters.

Agency Information
Chicago Police Board
The Chicago Police Board is an independent civilian body that oversees various matters of the Chicago Police Department, mainly deciding disciplinary cases involving police officers or members of the department, and nominating candidates for Superintendent of Police. The nine individuals who sit on the board are appointed by the mayor.
If you’re attending a Police Board meeting in person, be prepared to go through security. You may hear graphic descriptions of violent events or loud verbal protest from members of the public.
Remote meetings may be viewed at https://cantv.org/watch-now/ or on CAN-TV, Chicago cable channel 27. The video recordings are later posted on Youtube and previously on CAN TV’s YouTube within a day or two.
